Casa do Carolas

A stunning old 3 bedroom townhouse in a classical and excellent location. Casa do Carolas has a beautiful old facade facing on to a superbly renovated square surrounded by other well kept townhouses with their own little plant pots with typical Algarvian flowers and plants offering a great secluded little spot in a tranquil little area.

The 3 bedroom townhouse offers accommodation over three floors with a split level roof terrace offering an outside style kitchen, a lower terrace with a dining table and chairs for some al fresco dining whilst overlooking the fabulous rooftop views over Olhao. Climb a little spiral stair case and find a lovely seating area with shading for a day of relaxed sunbathing, reading and general relaxation.


Entrance

Whilst Casa do Carolas has a wonderful and deeply traditional double wooden front door complete with the very typical "hand" door knockers and wooden shutters with metal filagree the best way to enter is via the side door.

To the side of our superb 3 bedroom townhouse is a door in a wall from the traditional cobbled pedestrian lane that leads in to a small, enclosed and private courtyard. Another door then give direct access to the house and straight into the kitchen.

The courtyard makes a great and safe place to store bikes or maybe the beach stuff and makes it much easier the enter the house rather than the front doors that lead into the living area.

Both the door from the lane and the kitchen door can be locked and are of a good metal design.

 

Living Space

A door from the kitchen gives access to the living room. The room is and L shaped room and directly in front of the kitchen is a huge antique wooden dining table surrounded by 6 chairs. It makes quite a stunning feature to the room and is very much in keeping of the Portuguese family tradition of all eating together and making an occasion out of food.

To the back of the living room is a wonderful little painted antique dresser. Between the ding table and sofa is a modern unit for the flat screen Smart television. This offers some European channels and is also where the wifi unit is located giving wifi access throughout out the whole 3 bedroom townhouse.

Facing the front door and the television is a large black fabric
comfortable and cosy L shaped sofa that fits neatly into this space. Cushions add a bit of colour and texture. Its a great place to sit and relax in the cool as even without air con Casa do Carolas was built to be nice and cool in the Summer months.

This 3 bedroom townhouse is well looked after but not renovated as it has been well maintained by generations of local families. We have installed air conditioning as it is a modern comfort that is enjoyed when on holiday in our lovely warm climate. It provides refreshing cool air in the hot summer months but can also be used to provide lovely warm cosy air in the cooler winter months. This means our lovely old 3 bedroom townhouse is a great holiday option any time of the year.

Beautiful, traditional and original terracotta tiles make the floor and at a low level a layer of blue patterned tiles cover the walls. The wooden front doors have no glass and when the shutters open they let is dappled light from the stunning decorative bars thats are very traditional to this type of house. The two large windows that overlook the dining table and sofa are also adorned with beautiful iron work and lets in plentiful light to the room.

These windows are again very in keeping with the style and age of the 3 bedroom townhouse. You can either just open the 2 small wooden shutters and have small glass window panes set in the white painted wood or you can open those too and have a huge open window letting in and abundance of cool are and light. The ironwork thats decorates the outside of the windows act as security for the house when the windows are completely open.

From the back of the living area large iron work gate thats is Moorish is style directs you to the beautiful tiled stair cases. All these wonderful old features remind you that you are living in a piece of Olhao history for your holidays.

 

Kitchen

The kitchen is a separate room and acts as the best way to gain access to the whole of the 3 bedroom townhouse. From the enclosed yard a door leads into the kitchen and to the right is a small modern breakfast bar with 2 stools. Dual aspect windows let in plenty of light. One looks over the courtyard whilst the other is above the sink and looks out into the small cobbled street, reminding you that you are in the heart of the old town.

In the corner is a free standing gas hob and oven and above is the old fashioned chimney adding the traditional feel to the kitchen. Also her is the gas boiler that provides hot water for the house via the large gas bottle stored safely in the court yard.

Older style kitchen units units painted blue/grey are filled with all the items you would expect to find in any family kitchen. We have provided plenty of crockery, cutlery, glasses, mugs, coffee cups and much more to try and cater for every Nationality.

Olhao is famous for its fresh produce as the daily markets offer up a magic selection of freshly caught fish and seafood from the flotilla of fishing boats that still work out of the Olhao harbour today. The market also has the most amazing fresh produce hall with locally grown vegetables and fruit along with traditional local butchers.

So we have made sure Casa do Carolas has a kitchen well equipped with plenty of cooking utensils, pots pans, serving dishes and much more so you too can taste a bit of traditional Algarve life.

But we have made sure modern items are not missed! We have a dishwasher, a full size fridge freezer, a capsule coffee machine, kettle toaster and microwave too.

We have provided tea towels, and a little supply of hand soap, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets to help you get started on your self catering holiday.

 


Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Heading through those magnificent Moorish style wrought ion gates a marble and tiled enclosed stone stair case leads to all the upper floors of this superb 3 bedroom townhouse.

Before climbing the stairs a family bathroom is located to the left on the ground floor. Tiled floor to ceiling in blue and white tiles the bathroom offers a walk in shower a toilet and a basin with an over head mirrored cupboard above. Perfect for storing toiletries and cosmetics.

In the bathroom we have left some hand soap and a toilet roll for you.

Upon climbing the first set of stairs the landing gives access to the 3 bedrooms in our glorious 3 bedroom townhouse and also a shared bathroom.

To the front of the house the first bedroom offers a large king size bed and a very light and spacious room. Each side the the bed is small bedside units both with lamps. A large antique set of drawers offers a great option for clothes and a place for cosmetics.

The walls are painted fresh white and the floor is lovely warm laminate flooring giving a little bit of comfort.

An old traditional curtain pole hangs above the wooden floor to ceiling wooden double doors with white curtains. Again, the same as the rest of the 3 bedroom townhouse the windows are the original wooden windows and doors with small shutters. They look over Largo do Carolas square below. A gorgeous wrought iron work fence keeps you safe and adds to the dimension of the facade.

An air conditioning unit has been installed to give you a cool refreshing breeze in the summer months but also lovely warmth in the cooler winter nights.

The bed is made with fresh, crisp white sheets and we provide you with hand, bath and beach towels too.

Our second bedroom also overlooks the square but is dual aspect and also overlooks the small alley to the side of the 3 bedroom townhouse. As the same as the rest of the house the window that overlooks are large double doors with windows and original to the house. The window that overlooks the alley is original but window sized. Both let ins an abundance of natural light and a cool breeze when needed. But having shutters means the room can be made lovely and dark.

This bedroom is huge, light and very spacious. In 2018 a new kingsize bed was added and is exceptionally comfortable. Items of antique furniture adorn the bedroom and add an eclectic mix to the bedroom. Antique wooden curtain poles hold warm curtains adding softness to the room.

Fitted wardrobe run the length of one wall in the bedroom adding plenty of hanging space and storage. We have placed an air conditioning unit on the wall to provide lovely cool air in the hot summer months and also some cosy warmth in the cooler winter evenings.

The third bedroom does not have a door and is divided from the small landing by a large curtain. Windows runt he length of the room ad are dressed with curtains designed to block out light. These windows overlook the courtyard and alley below.

An old Portuguese antique wooden bed frame adds interest to this room and the bed is a double in size. It has a new mattress so is very comfortable to sleep on whist still being able to enjoy a little piece of old Portugal.

The bedroom offers a bedside table and lamp along with a useful chest of drawers. Small ornaments remind you that you are near the sea.

Air con adds a modern touch and facility to give maximum comfort.

Between the bedrooms is a family bathroom. A full size bath adds comfort with an over head shower, bidet and toilet. A wood and marble vanity unit holds a basin and offers great storage options. You will also find a hair dryer for your use. Above is a large mirror.

Climb the second part of the internal stair case and a small storage area allows access to an enclosed kitchen/utility room stocked with glasses and other useful items to enjoy on the roof terraces whilst relaxing.

A wooden table and chairs offers a place to sit and and relax. Also found here is a washing machine.

 

Private Terraces

Our wonderful 3 bedroom townhouse has two extraordinary roof terraces

From the upstairs kitchen a door leads out on to the first terrace where we have a BBQ and a large rattan table and 6 chairs to really enjoy some al fresco dining. This terrace is a wonderful holiday place and offers a quiet place to sit and relax looking over the Olhao roof tops and down to the maze of alleys and little streets below. We have provided a selection of sun loungers to enjoy a place to sunbathe read, relax and enjoy the wonderful ambient Algarve sunshine any time of the year.

An iron spiral stair case leads to the top terrace, once used as a lookout watching the flotillas of fishing boats coming home from a hard few days fishing, possibly tuna?

Here we have now placed a great outside rattan sofa so it makes for a perfect and tranquil spot to enjoy he glorious views over the cubist roof tops of Olhao and even some glimpses of the sea and Ria Formosa protected lagoons.

The house is not renovated but has been fitted with modern appliances to include excellent wifi and air conditioning and modern kitchen appliances. So you can live comfortably during you holiday but still sample Olhao life.

Packed full of information to make the best of your holiday starting from the moment you arrive. It tells you how to collect the keys, who will look after you during your stay and clear concise directions to Casa do Carolas. Then it is packed full with details of the best restaurants, taxis and local amenities and activities.

And of course our managers are on hand to make sure you love your holiday more if you need any advice or tips on the local area they will be more than happy to help.

Booking your Holiday

 

To secure your holiday home with us, we ask for a deposit payment of 20% of the holiday price within 24 hours of the booking. As soon as that payment is made we will send an e mail asking for your full details and travel details.

One month before your holiday starts we will send you a reminder e mail asking for the final payment for your holiday home.

We ask for a damage bond of €200 this is payable on arrival at your holiday home either by cash or provision of credit cards details.

Methods of payment

On the payment page you will find four tabs.

Tab 1 Euro bank details, this is for you to be able to make a bank transfer. This is not automated. Please use the bank details given within your bank account to make the transfer and send a confirmation slip giving the booking reference

Tab 2   Within our website we have a secure payment method for card payments. Please sue this tab if you wish to pay by card.

Tab 3 UK Bank Transfer.   We are able to utilise a UK bank account if preferred. Before payment please ask for a Euro/sterling conversions price. 

Tab 4 If you prefer Paypal we have a direct link for you to be able to use this method of payment.

Arrival Day

We set the arrival time at your holiday home to be any time after 1600.   This is to allow us time to prepare the holiday home for you. We are extremely flexible in that we will try and prepare the holiday home to coincide with your flight arrival time. But we can not guarantee this will happen. We are also happy to allow you leave baggage at the holiday home whilst the property is being prepared allowing you to get the most out of your holiday. 

We ask that you carefully read the holiday home manual we will send you before the start of your holiday, as this contains all the contact information of the Manager who will be meeting you and looking after you during your holiday. 

Our Manager will be expecting a telephone call from you on arrival day. The Manager will only attend the property after that phone call in readiness to meet you.   We do not have a reception and each guest is met personally. If we have more than one client at once arriving we will let you know and ask that maybe you give us a little time. Maybe pop for a coffee and we can call you when we are ready to meet you. Our Manager will like to spend some time with you explaining how appliances work in the holiday home and let you know about the local area and will be happy to answer any questions you might have.  

 

Departure Day

We set the departure time at 1000. We ask for your departure details or plans once you leave us. This way we can schedule our holiday home preparation for the next guest just like we did for you. If we can offer a later stay during the winter months we will try and accommodate you.   In the Summer months due to the high volume of guests we have to strictly adhere to the 1000 departure time at the latest.

 

Our "All important" Welcome book

Before the start of your holiday we will send you our online Guest Welcome Book which is packed with everything you need to know about your holiday Home and the local area.

The book gives you all of the meeting arrangements, directions and how to get the keys. 

We have tried to give you a real insight and help you to plan your holiday before you even arrive. 

Our online Guest book is compatible with smart phones and tablets meaning you can take the guest book with you where ever you go to maximise your holiday experience. 

During your holiday if you find places not in the book you would like to recommend to future guests please do let us know and we would love to add them to our book.   The idea is to offer a great book that guests find useful.

 

Equipment Hire, Car Hire and Transfer Information

 

Equipment hire for children and babies

We can hire a variety of items for your holiday home. Please book any items your require during the booking process. Paymnet will be locally in cash please. 

We offer the following,

Camp beds suitable for children up to 12 years €5 per night

Travel cots and mattress (No linen provided, please be sure to bring your own) €5 per night

High chairs €5 per night.

 

Bicycle Hire

We have an arrangement with a superb local Bike Hire Company and can arrange for bicycles to be delivered to your holiday home either before your holiday starts or during you holiday.    We can also arrange for the bikes to be collected. Car Hire

We can take the stress out of car hire for you by booking in advance for you.    We have chosen a small local Company to supply our hire cars. They will be at the Airport to meet you personally rather than you having to find a shuttle bus to the larger hire car Companies or waiting in huge queues with a horrible and impersonal service. 

We can also arrange hire of scooters for you.    They can be delivered at your holiday home and collects after your holiday is over.

Airport Transfers

We have used the same local Company, Big Eye Tours since its inception 3 years ago. Run by a brother and sister team and born and bred in Olhao they have built a super reliable and excellent Airport transfer service and we are proud to be connected with them. 

Please ask for a quote and we will arrange the transfers via our Company login to their site.    This means there will be no waiting around at the Airport as the driver will be in Arrivals waiting for you. There will be no trying the explain the location of your holiday home as the driver will already know where to go. The driver will even call our Managers in advance for you so they can be at the holiday home ready to meet you.

An ideal family holiday home, wonderfully located
We are two thirds of the way through a months holiday in this traditional house in the heart of the old town It is perfect for accessing all the amenities of this charming area. It is clean, spacious and well equipped, and the beds are very comfortable. The management have been very helpful and quick to respond to any queries and problems and have organised taxi transfers very efficiently Two of our daughters and partners have visited separately for five days each, and have been delighted and impressed with the house and the town. The roof terraces give extra space for family activities and lovely views of the lagoon and the town.
